Mga Lumang Pelikula, Isa-DVD na (Classic Black and White Filipino Movies Should Be in DVDs)
Isa sa mga magagandang alaala ko noong ako'y paslit pa lamang ay ang panonood ko ng mga re-runs ng mga black and white Tagalog movies ng Sampaguita Pictures and LVN Inc. Tuwing bakasyon sa iskul, sa Maynila ako nagbabakasyon kasama ang aking Tatay at Ate. Pagkatapos ng tanghalian, kami ng Ate ko ay pupuwesto na sa harapan ng telebisyon at manonood na ng mga lumang pelikulang Pilipino. Ewan ko ba kung bakit napakaaliwalas na damdamin ang naibibigay nito sa amin. Ang gaganda ng mga lumang pelikula noon. Ang gaganda at ang gwapo ng mga artista, hindi hamak na mas magaganda at makikisig ang mga artista noon. Ang mga pelikula ay talaga namang magaganda ang istorya at iyon talaga ang pokus ng palabas. Hindi ang paghuhubad o madugong paglalaban ang pokus.
Dapat ang mga lumang pelikula ay linisin at i-remaster na. Dapat lamang na magtagal ba ito sa mahabang panahon. Ito'y bahagi ng ating kultura at dapat pangalagaan. Bakit ba ang Hapon? Halos kasabayan ng Pilipinas ang Hapon sa paggawa ng pelikula noon, pero ngayon ang mga lumang pelikula nila ay nasa DVD na (Halimbawa ay ang mga pelikula ni Kurosawa). Mas maganda sana ay kung may organisasyon sa Pinas na mangunguna dito.
Napakayaman ng kulturang Pilipino. Dapat ay pangalagaan at pagyamanin pa. Hindi lang para sa mga susunod pang henerasyon, kung hindi para na rin maipakita sa buong mundo ang bahagi ng ating kultura.
English Translation:
One of the fondest memories I have when I was a kid was to watch re-reruns of old Tagalog black and white films by Sampaguita Pictures and LVN Inc. I spend every summer vacation in Manila with my Dad and older sister. Everyday after lunch, my sister and I sit ourselves in front of the tv and watch the classic black and white Filipino films.
I dunno, but watching these films was like bathing myself in cold, refreshing, fresh water. Those movies were classics. The actors and actresses were amazingly beautiful and handsome (much more good-looking than the actors and actresses today). The movies' focus were the stories, and not taking off clothes or bloody battles.
These classic movies must be cleaned and remastered. They should be kept for posterity. This is a part of our heritage and culture. Look at Japan. Japan and the Philippines were almost equal during the black and white movies era, and look at them now. They have their classic films in DVD (e.g., Kurosawa's films). It would be much better if there's an organization that will spearhead this venture in the Philippines.
The Philippines is rich in culture and heritage. It should be preserved and cultivated, not only for future generation but also to show the world what we're all about.

As for the specifics, I am not really sure what's involved in remastering a film, but I think that the classic films are worth every penny. I'd rather watch classic Pinoy films rather than watch new Pinoy films (mostly crappy) that are being produced nowadays. I dunno what's happening, either people's brains are getting smaller or artists (actors, writers, directors) are getting lazier.
